State of the States 2008: Technology Initiatives and Implications  (Mar 2008)

This Industry Insights report analyzes the governors' 2008 state of the state addresses as well as their budget-request documents to supply companies with the information they need to be successful in changing market conditions.

Description

This year 43 governors have given their state of the state speeches in which they detail their policy priorities for the coming year. These speeches, along with the governors’ proposed budgets, provide the first opportunity to identify new technology initiatives and policy trends. Governors offered over a thousand new initiatives or about 25 per governor, down slightly from 29 per governor last year. On par with last year, almost 5% of these initiatives were technology related.

The report organizes the governors' IT priorities around eleven state and local verticals:

  • Community Development
  • Economic Development/Regulation
  • Education
  • General Government Services
  • Health Care
  • Homeland Security
  • Justice/Public Safety
  • Natural Resources/Environment
  • Public Finance
  • Social Services
  • Transportation

As the announced priorities come to market, they will be tracked in INPUT's State & Local Opportunities data base. Additionally, the report includes profiles for each of the nation's three newest governors in Kentucky, Louisiana, and New York.
